Whether collaborating with a collective or exploring ways to elevate marginalised artists, Riva's core values of embracing a genreless approach to sound, recognising music as a political statement for FLINTA people, unifying disparate listeners on the dancefloor and enjoying music as much as humanly possible have shaped her journey so far. The interdisciplinary artist is at home in many musical realms—bouncy to psychedelic techno, angelic trance, progressive house, and Middle Eastern sounds influenced by her upbringing in Kuwait. Using music as a method of storytelling and protest, Riva's guest mix "Lose Yourself" for BBC Radio 6 spotlighted her nuanced approach to DJing. Here, she revisited her upbringing in Kuwait, stitching soundscapes from the SWANA region to create a dreamy session delving into different schools of music and diasporas, steeped in her experience of globalisation from a young age. Riva views the craft of music production as a tool to educate others and bolster causes she believes in, be it championing non-Western sounds or challenging societal norms. In 2021, she co-curated "DT002" with the South Asian collective Daytimers. Shortly after, Riva brought Daytimers and Big Dyke Energy together for the compilation "Celebrating Pride: For the Community, By the Community", raising funds for LGBTQIA+ organisations. Her debut track, "The Power To Take You On The Floor", featured on the release. Since then, she has contributed to MARICAS Records, Radiant Records, MUSA, and Amniote Editions and collaborated with sitarist and composer Tommy Khosla on tracks released via Osàre! Editions and Borne Fruits. Elsewhere, mixes for Origins, Tehran Night, The Lot Radio, and her bi-monthly show Club Rani on Refuge Worldwide make up a fraction of her listening archive, diving further into Planet Riva. It's why the London-based artist can close UNFOLD, play an afternoon set at Body Movements, or soundtrack sunset at Maiden Voyage festival. Her versatility and acute skill in reading any room have led her to play fabric, RSO.Berlin, CLUB RAUM, Boiler Room festival, and several sets at FOLD as part of her ongoing residency. During her time with Daytimers, Riva produced the first and second editions of the South Asian music and culture festival, Dialled In, and chaired its Dialled In Discussions series, which covered the topics of South Asian community, identity, and marginalised spaces. Having left Daytimers in 2022, Riva worked alongside Jawani 4eva, where she produced the first FLINTA event in its series. A year later, she teamed up with Big Dyke Energy and curated a stage at London's Gala festival. She also participated in The Jaguar Foundation's report exploring gender disparity in the UK dance music circles. Well-versed in public speaking, Riva hosted a discussion for FOLD Talks, centring on sobriety in the context of raving. Additionally, Riva participated in the 2025 edition of Boudica Music Conference, where she taught a DJ Workshop for female, trans+ and non-binary individuals. An advocate for sobriety in the dance music community, Riva co-runs Sober Nightlife, a platform dedicated to sharing experiences and advice and fostering a supportive network for those navigating sobriety in nightlife. Workshops, events and talks also come under the remit of the initiative. With a natural flair for engaging diverse communities both on and off the dancefloor, a fearless approach to addressing socio-political causes she believes in, and an exceptional talent for mixing and producing a myriad of sounds and stories, Riva is an essential figure in the scenes of London and beyond.
