Working in Lisbon electronic music's most modern and enticing fringes since 2006, Maria Amor has an active role in her hometown as a careful selector, DJ, vocalist and producer in genres like breaks, uk bass, electro, acid, techno, footwork, jungle and drum&bass. Maria started playing in bands as a teenager and later shifted her to focus to electronic music through her work with A.M.O.R. (alongside Violet), with Ervadoce (alongside Shcuro) and later with Chicago's own Chrissy. Her first solo EP, with the fittingly poetic title 'Her Roses Dance Louder Than Tears' was released on naivety and in it, bold, future-facing production goes hand in hand with melodic incantations - experimentation peeks at every corner, and even her own vocals flourish in both textural and lyrical ways. She runs Paraíso with Shcuro; a record label, club night, radio show on Rádio Quântica, and a soon to be released documentary, pushing forward a platform that showcases the music that was once called “underground house music from a paradise called Portugal”. An homage to the portuguese rave sound that emerged in the mid 90’s and continues to tread its path today sprinkling the collective unconscious. 2024 saw her starting her solo imprint Eterna, that stands as a testament to her myriad influences - a sonic tapestry characterized by bass-heavy, polyrhythmic compositions with the dancefloor in mind. Eterna is a constant bonded by love and unity. Maria's myriad influences timelessly transpire in her current practice which nevertheless remains highly personal, never leaving emotionality behind.
