Alexander Koning
Producer, DJ, label owner and promoter, Alexander Koning, can boast quite a standing in the contemporary world of electronic music. Since Koning’s initial introduction to house and techno in the late eighties, he’s come a long way and seen his own material released with many reputable imprints in the industry such as Global Underground, Pacha, Bellboy, Circle, Subliminal etc. etc. . Now Alexander has gone on to launch his own platform for releasing material in the later half of 2013, namely [Percep-tion] Records. His earlier labels where founded in 1994 and all had great succes. Koning caught the electronic music bug after spending his youth attending underground illegal raves at abandoned warehouses and various locations across his home turf of Holland. This soon led to a desire for Alexander to host his own events, teaming up with friend Michel Becks for a string of small parties in their hometown under the name ‘Eye On The Future’, after great success things blossomed and soon saw a venue change to accommodate its following and the welcoming of internationally renowned artists headlining the events. The likes of Adam Beyer, Joel mull, Marc Romboy, Ben Sims, Valentini kanzyani , Martin Eyerer, Einmusik and Chris Liebing to name a few all graced the decks for the the first time in Holland on Eye on the future , and eventually the prosperity of the parties led to a nomination for ‘Best Dutch Organization’ in 1998. To this date Alexander is still throwing successful parties and continually keeping things exciting with fresh names being brought to Holland with every step forward. Alexander can also boast a reputable presence on the DJ circuit himself, having played gigs at some of the globes leading nightclubs such as Watergate, Katerholzig, Suicide Circus, Ministry Of Sound, the late Turnmills, Awakenings , Doka, Melkweg, Paradiso, Dancevalley, Sunrise, Wooferland, 5 days off, Loveland Festivals (this is just a little summary of which clubs and festivals he played). His djing took him to a lot of countries worldwide like Sweden, Hungary, Poland, Bosnia, Ukrain, Russia, Belgium, Croatia, England and Germany to name a few. This stands as testament to Koning’s ability as a DJ amongst other skills. Now at this present date, after a five-year hiatus due to health issues, Koning is back in full force delivering more of his classy house and techno grooves via [Percep-tion]. Hosting label showcases at Berlin’s leading club spaces Katerholzig and Sisyphos at Egg in London and at Amsterdam’s Doka, Thuishaven, Paradigm, Toren and Stalker. As [Percep-tion] continues to grow we’ll see Koning delve deeper into his experimentation between art and music, fusing the two through record sleeves and homemade art. While also working alongside friend and production partner Andy Slate under the ‘Distorted Beauty’ guise, the material of which has already been snapped up by the likes of ViVa Music, Lapsus, Toolroom, Tulipa etc. etc. again a telling sign of the creativity that continually flows and never falters through this impressive talent.

David Penn
In a memorable year, where Defected Records continued to throw down the gauntlet to the rest of the global house scene, Spanish housemaster David Penn was an omnipresent force in 2019. Ranked #1 house music artist of all-time and #5 all genres artist of the last 12 months by an unassailable points margin on industry recognised website Beatstats (to go alongside his already long standing #1 position on Traxsource), he topped and tailed a summer long assault on the top of the house charts once again, with two heavyweight releases on the iconic label. First came his ubiquitous roof-raising remix of Pete Heller’s all-time house classic ‘Big Love’ which dominated DJ charts and dancefloors the world over, followed by ‘Stand Up’, a supercharged gospel house masterpiece which captures David at his hand-clapping, piano-riffing best, with rousing breaks proven to ‘take the dancefloor to church’ every time. These anthemic tracks epitomise the unique style and contagious energy encapsulated within a modern-day David Penn DJ set. Captivating audiences with his live keyboard-playing, boundless enthusiasm and infectious trademark grin, the resulting perpetual hands-in-the-air moments provide a joyful reminder of the remarkable power of DJ’ing as a performance art. Alongside previous huge club hits such as ‘Hipcats’ , ‘Nobody’ and his remix of the Todd Terry classic ‘Babarabatiri’ , these stand out anthems have cemented David’s position as the most exciting and successful house music artist in the world right now. So, what of 2020 for the successful owner of Madrid based label Urbana Recordings, radio host and prolific producer with more than two decades of output under numerous guises (including “Sun Rising Up by Deux and “Night train” by Kadoc, which sold over two million copies globally), with a long-line of DJ accolades already under his belt? Could it be possible a career built on a never-ending wave of crescendos may yet be poised to reach its pinnacle? www.djdavidpenn.com http://facebook.com/djdavidpenn https://www.instagram.com/djdavidpenn/ https://twitter.com/djdavidpenn Management – Matt Jagger / Phil Loraine matt@europamusicmanagement.com / phil@europamusicmanagement.com Bookings - Carlos Calico carlos@ingeniumbookings.com
Funkerman
Funkerman, known to his postman as Ardie van Beek, (born 1975, Breda, The Netherlands), is a well known DJ/producer and founder of Flamingo Recordings. From his first love of pioneering US hip hop, through obsessive crate digging for classic soul, Disco and Funk, to riding on the first waves of US house; he has always been on a quest to find, make and play new and exciting music. Whilst spinning at the Spock club in Breda in the mid nineties he was also starting to produce and promote music, while working in local record store, Magik. Being surrounded by the records he loved gave him an insight to the dance music industry as well as keen sense of how music moved people, and he quickly became a A&R manager; working at the heart of the burgeoning Dutch scene. Through years of hard work DJ-ing and producing, Funkerman established himself internationally, and by 2004 he decided it was time to capitalise on his success, so he founded Flamingo Recordings, with fellow producer Raf and DJ/producer Fedde le Grand. In the six years since, the label has gone from strength to strength, releasing some of the biggest house tracks of recent times, like Funkerman’s ‘Speed Up’ , Ida Corr’s ‘Let me think about it’, Fedde le Grand’s ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’ and their collaboration on ‘3 Minutes To Explain’. Flamingo Recordings has of course also been the outlet for his own prolific discography. In 2005 Funkerman topped the Dutch club charts with ‘Rule the Night’ and ‘The One’, with the latter getting support from leading DJ’s worldwide and appearing on numerous compilations. Then in 2007 he made the Dutch Top 40, the Mega Single Top 100 and the Mega Top 50 in a collaboration with Fedde le Grand, under their F to the F alias, with ‘Wheels In Motion’. In the same year he also made the international charts with the massive ‘Speed Up’ featuring I/Fan, a track so popular it was released by another nine labels before eventually being signed by legendary UK label Defected Records. In 2008 he again teamed up with Fedde again to release ‘3 Minutes To Explain’, as well as delivering several huge remixes for the likes of Ida Corr, Guru Josh and the Sugababes, as well as turning hits like Re-United’s ‘Sun Is Shining’ and Jaimy & Kenny D’s ‘Keep On Touchin Me’ into new club anthems. And as further proof of his commercial success, ‘Speed Up’ was made available as a downloadable track on the Xbox 360 karaoke game, Lips. Off the back of an extensive North American and Australian tour, 2009 saw him release ‘Remember’ again featuring I-Fan, which dominated the download charts, as well as YouTube, thanks to the beautifully sinister animated video. He also invested in the ever-growing reputation of the label by starting the Flamingo Nights series of parties, which soon became an international benchmark for world-class production and quality guest mixes. This year sees the long-awaited debut artist album from Funkerman, along with a production and DJ’ing schedule that perfectly displays his broad attitude to music, playing a diverse mix of the world’s best festivals and clubs, and working with artists varying from soul and hip-hop to underground house and electro. Whilst enjoying the many fruits of his labour, Funkerman’s aim is to keep on improving musically and, as always, to try and push electronic music to the next level.
The Advent
London based Cisco Ferreira, or ‘The Advent’, can be described in many ways: a musician, a pioneer, a sound designer, a steady force, one persistent m*therf*cker, a rebel, an icon, an outsider, a great live artist... Mostly though, The Advent is known for his interpretation of what we call Techno. Ever since young Portuguese Cisco discovered Acid House in the London clubs he frequented, his journey has been about making his mark on the electronic music scene. Or, as he recently put it himself: “I’ve been doing this for quite a few years and I’m not going anywhere.” This sums it up pretty well; you won’t see Ferreira naked, shooting promo videos carrying a dog, or hear him publically worrying about the sincerity of the average EDM jockey. He’s everything about techno you’ve learned to love, without the circus you’ve learned to accept. Fresh out of college, Cisco’s hunger for sound landed him a job as assistant sound-engineer in several recording studios. There he learned about the art of translating feelings to frequencies, while at the same time recording various high profile artists from the world of Rock, Pop, Dance, and Reggae. When acid label ‘Jack Trax’ moved in next-door, Cisco started recording for the likes of Adonis, Fingers Inc, Marshall Jefferson, and Derrick May. These rendezvous sparked the inspiration for his first EPs on R&S and Fragile. In 1994 Ferreira signed a record deal for 12 EPs and 3 albums together with Colin McBean. This was the beginning of an era during which the duo set a worldwide standard for high quality underground Electro and Techno. They hit the world with a refreshing sound, both as The Advent, and ‘G Flame (Cisco) and Mr G’, the alias Colin is still using. Nowadays The Advent is a solo project, bombarding crowds around the world with its trademark raw, energetic sound. A sound that grants him yearly slots at festivals as Nature One, Awakenings and Bonusz, as well as regular shows in clubs as Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Lehmann in Stuttgart, and Madrid’s Fabrik. He hasn’t given up cooperating with likeminded artists though! In 2007 he met Ricardo Rodrigues aka Industrialyzer, in whom he recognised an attitude similar to his own. They are both from Portugal, both self-made, and the both have a clear vision of what techno should sound like. As a duo they’re at least as popular as they are as individual artists, playing sold out shows wherever they go, and steadily creating an impressive combined oeuvre.

Remy Unger
Recent years have been treating Remy well with high profile gigs like Timewarp NL, A Day At The Park, closing sets at Awakenings and of course his wildly popular residency at the ‘Click’ club nights and festival. His latest venture the ´Fone Audio´ record label, in collaboration with Patch Park, is taking him back to his roots releasing a unique mix of pumping energetic techno and tech-house. Let´s explore the background of one of Holland´s finest and yet most modest artists. The Roxy Remy’s adventures started in ’89 with his first visits to the legendary Roxy in Amsterdam where resident Dimitri brought a new sound to a new generation: house. “It was love at first sight” Remy remembers. “The energy that was released was so heavy, I just had to be a part of it!” The First steps Unger bought turntables and during the next year spent all his money on records, sometimes even forgetting he also needed to feed himself every once in a while. The hard work paid off and by 1990 Remy found himself behind the decks at the Roxy. International bookings started piling up and soon he was playing Twilo in New York, John Digweed’s Bedrock Nights and Ibiza’s finest clubs. “I learnt a lot in those days” Remy reminisces, “I was thrown in at the deep end, going straight from being a clubber to being a DJ in the most respected clubs. It couldn’t have been more intense”. The next level It was a time when house was synonymous with hedonism and new peaks were reached every week. “Sometimes the crowd went so berserk, you couldn’t hear your own mix!” Unger laughs. After two years, an overflowing schedule caused young Remy to spread his wings and break loose from his residency at the Roxy. The next steps in his career took him to all the hot spots in Europe, Asia, South Africa, North and South America. His straight forward no-bullshit approach to electronic music and good empathy with the dance floor have made him one of the silent forces in club land today. The Producer Remy has always been actively involved in all aspects of the record industry as a label boss, producer, remixer and compiler. His first successes as a producer came from collaborations with Sven van Hees on Wonka Records. Sven and Remy then went on to found the widely respected Global Cuts bringing forward classics such as ‘Piano Power’. His work with Roland Klinkenberg also resulted in some classic material like, ‘Ignite’, ‘Mexico Can Wait’, ‘Till Ya Drop’ and their remix of Eye Wall – Bad deal on his own labels Taste and 68 Recordings. Big solo tracks on these labels included ‘Backstabber’, ‘Mano’ and Serious Damage under his own name and many hits under his alias Wavecatcher. Many of these tracks were licensed by EMI who got artists like Nathan Fake, James Holden, Jark Prongo and Mike Monday on the remix. In 2003 Remy released his album ‘Bang!’ which brought forth his hit records Dustsucker, Scrambled and of course the title track Bang! which all made it on to many compilations. All eyes are on Remy now with big releases on Fone and Gem coming up!!

Melon
When an 8 year old kid asks for a drum machine and Atari 500 computer with the intention of starting his own band, you know his future does not lie anywhere but in music. Introducing: Jeroen Hofer aka Melon. Not your average human being. Something that becomes obvious the second he enters the room – a beaming, larger than life personality that cannot possibly be ignored. Flair and charisma have never hurt anyone in this business. Melon is a natural artist, a DJ’s DJ who has managed to gain residencies and regular bookings at some of the world’s finest clubs purely by being great at spinning records, such as Fabric, Robert Johnson or Panorama Bar. His awesome record collection, spanning three decades of dance music, is the base for a unique sound that is always a few steps ahead of the game. Timeless, muscular house in all its glory and variety which can be witnessed at his monthly “Ratio?” residency at Trouw. Over the last few years, Melon has managed to create a high production profile. “Nitzi” on Innervisions and “Spring” on his own “Ratiomusic?” imprint are incredibly subtle and timeless masterpieces, while his work under his Je Dàvu moniker, such as his infamous re-edit of INXS’s “I Need You Tonight” and “I Zebra” on Platzhirsch, showcases a more rocking side of his repertoire.
