Tomáš Niesner is a Czech guitarist and sound artist working at the intersection of fingerstyle guitar, ambient and experimental music. Emerging from a background in noise rock and DIY scenes, he has developed a distinctive solo voice that blends intricate acoustic guitar technique with elements of Czech folk, drone, field recordings and subtle electronics.
His solo albums Aurora and Bečvou marked a significant artistic shift toward introspective, atmosphere-driven compositions. Bečvou, inspired by a 100-kilometre walk along the polluted Bečva river, combines acoustic guitar, zither, modular synthesizers and environmental recordings into a quietly immersive narrative. The album was included in The Wire Magazine’s Top 100 Albums of 2022 and received praise from The Quietus, establishing Niesner as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Czech experimental music.
In 2025, Niesner released adventus mmxxv, a minimalist reinterpretation of medieval Eastern European Advent chants (Rorate). Recorded on a four-track cassette recorder, the album embraces an analogue process and intuitive performance, transforming ancient liturgical melodies into sparse, resonant guitar pieces. Conceived as a 25-track cycle the record invites listeners into a space of stillness, reflection and quiet focus. Stripped of ornament and modern production excess, the music preserves only the essential melodic core, resulting in compositions that feel both archaic and strikingly present.
Alongside his solo work, he collaborates with guitarist Jakub Šimanský. Their duo albums Tance neznámé, Všechno dobré and Jako doma reinterpret the American Primitive tradition through a Central European lens, merging Czech folk sensibilities with improvisation and avant-garde textures into meditative, intricately woven compositions. Niesner is also one half of the duo with khomus player Aldana Duoraan. Their debut album Plot (Mappa) explores connections between acoustic guitar, jaw harp traditions, improvisation and contemporary experimental music.
For his 2026 tour, Tomáš will perform solo acoustic sets centred on immersive, intimate listening experiences. His concerts move between fragile minimalism and intense concentration, creating a focused atmosphere suited for attentive venues, galleries, churches and alternative spaces.
The concert will begin promptly at 6:30 PM. We kindly ask guests to arrive on time.
We look forward to welcoming you.
