ID

A list of ID's early music related experiences before the age of 10 include seeing live performances from Ice-T, Big Daddy Kane, MC Lyte, Public Enemy, The GoGos, The Cure, REM and Los Lobos. Whether this experience qualifies as influential or just questionable parenting is debatable. Born in a family of concert goers with various musical interests allowed ID to be exposed to a wide variety of artists growing up. Having a Father who worked in distribution for Warner Brothers in the 1980s didn't hurt either. While other kids were getting tapes, ID was getting early CD copies of Michael Jackson and Beastie Boys releases as well as full access to his dad's extensive record collection. It wasn't until a warm summer's day in Detroit in 1999 that the path of fandom and exposure to the music industry crossed. In a sparsely lit room, ID sat on a couch across from Carl Craig at Planet E during an interview for an internship, and was grilled about musical influence and character, among other things. Being allowed to see the day to day operations of an internationally recognized record label and being able to stand in the presence of artists like Carl Craig, Jason Hogans, Theo Parrish, Recloose and many others gave ID a sense of respect and humility as they related to the Detroit music scene. It was around this time, with the help of longtime mentor and friend Rob Theakston, that ID was introduced to DJing. ID's musical good fortune continued as he met DJs like DJ Horsepower and Waxmaster D Smooth who let him play early on nights they hosted around Detroit. From there ID began working in the Dance Room at Record Time in Roseville, Michigan. Long known as Detroit's Mecca for Detroit Techno records, this job allowed him to rub elbows and overhear conversations that most Detroit lovers only dream of. After leaving Detroit for Chicago in the early 2000s, ID made the leap to production after buying a Roland MC-909 Groovebox. His early experimentation yielded little and he was ready to give up and sell his gear. Franki Juncaj (DJ 3000) pushed ID to keep learning and working on his production, eventually releasing a few of ID's tracks on Motech Records' "Broken Research" compilations. In 2013, DJ 3000 and ID began the Meze Music label as an outlet for downtempo hip hop and left field style releases. ID's full length debut 'Capitulation' will be available in early 2013.
