Nick Curly

Nick Curly has now been defining the sound of the underground for ten whole years. The varied and vital artist has established a number of labels in that time, including the era-defining Cecille Records. Currently he is focused on 8Bit, which continues to grow from strength to strength, as an outlet for fresh house and tech. 2017, then, is sure to be another landmark year. By now, Curly has a refined signature sound that keeps people dancing all over the world. His productions continue to come on esteemed labels like Truesoul, Drumcode and Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Sound, and he remains an in-demand remixer – recent work taking in Pan Pot’s Second State and for the legendary duo Stephane K and John Creamer, with an appearance due on 'Saved' for hot newcomer Emanuel Satie slated for spring. His DJ schedule takes in hundreds of gigs each year, all over the world, with year on year growth showing no signs of slowing down. 2016 was a superb year, yet 2017 already includes confirmed appearances at Heart Miami, Ministry of Sound, TimeWarp Mannheim, Crobar Buenos Aires, Warung Beach Club and festival plays at Hideout, Sonus, Eastern Electrics, and many more. More recently Nick has been heading up his own party brand, Trust. Now a few years old, it continues to go from strength to strength and really brings something fresh to each city it lands in. As well as a bi-annual residency at Watergate in Berlin, Trust host parties at high profile places like Sonus Festival and BPM, always with a tasteful selection of headliners who fit in with Nick’s unique vision for the party. The future is as bright as the past for this DJ, producer, party curator and A&R. After great releases in 2016 that roamed from house to techno and back again, always with an assured sense of quality, Nick has a new EP on his own 8Bit due in April, with new records lined-up every six to eight weeks from the German production machine. 2017 is lining up to be another record breaker for this essential pillar of the underground dance scene.

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Paco Osuna is one of the most renowned artists in the electronic music industry. His creativity, courage and relentless search for new forms of expression are some of his principal and consistent virtues when it comes to making music. On the dance floor, he is lively, intelligent and sophisticated, with a deep awareness for sound aesthetics. Every session is important to Paco and he sets out to invent and renew every time he steps onto the stage. In 2006 he launched Mindshake, conceived as a platform for the creation and distribution of electronic music. Over the past few years, Mindshake has become one of the most important techno labels in the US and Europe, hosting productions of artists like Cuartero, Carlo Lio, Fer BR, Nick Curly and Paul Ritch, in addition to touring with the label showcases. Also in 2006, Paco founded a night with a fresh concept, Club4, alongside Marco Carola, Adam Beyer y Christian Smith. After more than 10 years, it is now considered a cult club in Barcelona where the love of techno reigns; Club4 has established itself as the overwhelming choice due to the variety and accessibility of the electronic music it has on offer. Throughout his career Paco has performed at clubs, parties and festivals of great prestige. The list of events in which he has played is endless, and is one where quality is more important than quantity. From Fabric London to WOMB Tokyo, passing through Space NYC, Space Miami and Verboten NY in the US, Watergate Berlin, Electric Brixton London and in his beloved Ibiza at Amnesia and Space. Among the festivals he has played constantly are Sónar, Awakenings, Dockyard, ADE, Neopop, BPM, Electric Zoo, Movement Detroit, Time Warp and Tomorrowland. From 2012 to 2014 he was resident for Richie Hawtin’s ENTER, appearing not only at Space Ibiza but also in its tour around the world. In 2015 Paco Osuna became part of Music On, joining Marco Carola in residencies at Amnesia Ibiza and the Story club in Miami, as well as the emblematic parties during BPM Mexico. In 2016 he was selected to be ambassador of PLAYdifferently MODEL1, a distinction also received by Loco Dice, Chris Liebing, Dubfire, Matador, Nicole Moudaber and, of course, Richie Hawtin. 2016 was also an important year for the Mindshake showcases, in which Paco participated alongside the label producers with tours taking in European and American stages, including events such as the Miami Music Week and ADE Amsterdam, for the fifth and second consecutive year respectively. The Mindshake showcases are both an extension of the musical and artistic vision of Paco and a family celebration, where the main goal is to create an intimate and unforgettable experience. In the studio, Paco Osuna has moulded his own musical signature, coating the purest techno sounds with his characteristic features: depth, darkness and imagination, always accentuated by his creativity and innovation. Proof of that are his releases on labels such as Plus8, Minus, Mood, Spectral, Hommage, and for his own platform Mindshake. In addition, he has remixed representative artists like Plastikman, Nicole Moudaber, Matador, Adam Beyer, Seth Troxler and Monkey Safari. 2017 is a story that is still unwritten, but without doubt Paco Osuna, through determination and love, will continue to trace the journey that has led him be the artist he is today. This year will again see his residency for Music On, while he will also still be focusing his energy on his main project Mindshake, a label that by the end of last year had published more than 49 references since its inception.

Serafina

Toman

Now based in Amsterdam, he moved to the Dutch capital in early 2018 — and has barely had time to pause for breath since. A producer who boasts an impressively prolific streak, Toman started his musical journey at an early age. More recently, his unique take on house and techno has led him to much-renowned outlets such as We R House, Cyclic, META, No Art, PIV, Blind Vision and Inermu, yet Toman’s story is no overnight success. On the contrary, his is one that that’s as attributable to a ceaseless work ethic as it is a music-loving upbringing and an unyielding appreciation of sound. Fascinated by all things percussion, Toman began learning the drums in his early teens, a move that would eventually steer him toward what he considers the “unrestrictive complexities of electronic music”. A producer with an endlessly eclectic palette, Toman cites the likes of Underworld, Minilogue, and Terry Lee Brown Jr as influences, all of whom attest in some way to his own eclectic palette. From minimal to tech-house to house and deeper sounds, Toman’s diverse musical outlook is refreshingly hard to categorise. In 2017, Toman’s first solo EP arrived courtesy of Mihai Popoviciu’s much-respected Cyclic. An ear-catching release that introduced us to a prodigious young talent, it was an impressive sign of things to come. Toman also signed his debut vinyl EP to Cinthie’s much-loved we_r house label, with the Broodrooster EP supported by a diverse cast of globally-respected DJs such as Archie Hamilton, Terry Francis, Roger Gerressen, Rossko, Dorian Paic, Traumer, Alexi Delano and Eric Cloutier. Added to this, his track, ‘Fantanized’ (released via the much-respected No Art label) spent over two months at the top on Beatport. In between studio sessions, Toman continues to tour as a DJ, with bookings outside of his native country including stop-offs in Uruguay, Argentina, Sydney (where he played the globally-renowned SASH party), Berlin’s Watergate and Leipzig’s Distillery - as well as jaunts to Zurich, Manchester and Bucharest to name a few. Closer to home, Toman’s stock continues to rise, with high-profile bookings at the likes of Awakenings and Straf_werk Festival emphasizing his growing stature in the game. There’s no doubt that Toman is an individual beginning to leave his musical mark on the international scene. Watch out for him in a city near you soon.

Traumer
