Mop Mop ist das Projekt des italienischen Multiinstrumentalisten und Produzenten Andrea Benini, der seit über zwei Jahrzehnten einen hypnotischen Sound-Cocktail aus tropischer Percussion, Funk und Vintage-Vibes kreiert. Sein markanter "Voodoo Jazz" verbindet Jazz-Elemente mit Afrobeat und den cineastischen Soundtracks des italienischen Kinos der 50er und 60er Jahre zu einer einzigartigen, postmodernen Klanglandschaft.

Gemeinsam mit seinem elektronischen Trio und der charismatischen Stimme des trinidadischen Dichters Anthony Joseph - dessen Performance an Legenden wie Gil Scott-Heron erinnert - entwirft Benini eine Atmosphäre, die gleichermaßen soulig, exzentrisch und tief in afro-karibischen Rhythmen verwurzelt ist.

Während Mop Mop sein Publikum wie Sun Ra auf Reisen an imaginäre Orte entführt, entstehen im Studio bereits neue Visionen: Aktuell arbeitet die Formation an frischen Songs, die den unverwechselbaren, exotischen Groove konsequent weiterführen.

Mop Mop is the project of Italian multi-instrumentalist and producer Andrea Benini, who has spent more than two decades crafting a hypnotic cocktail of tropical percussion, funk, and vintage-inspired grooves. His signature “Voodoo Jazz” fuses elements of jazz with Afrobeat and the cinematic soundtracks of 1950s and ’60s Italian cinema, creating a distinctive postmodern soundscape.

Together with his electronic trio and the charismatic voice of Trinidadian poet Anthony Joseph — whose performances evoke legends such as Gil Scott-Heron — Benini conjures an atmosphere that is at once soulful, eccentric, and deeply rooted in Afro-Caribbean rhythms.

Like Sun Ra, Mop Mop transports audiences to imaginary worlds through sound, while new visions are already taking shape in the studio: the group is currently working on fresh material that continues to expand its unmistakable, exotic groove. ________
