Manu – De Herontdekking van de Hemel

About

Writer and performer Manu van Kersbergen explores what language can and cannot do in a world that keeps fragmenting. Speaking from the perspective of a father trying to explain the world to his children, he weaves personal stories together with themes of racism, conflict and identity. The show was nominated for a Theo d’Or and the Annie M.G. Schmidtprijs, and was selected for both the Dutch and Flemish Theatre Jury’s official programmes.

On stage, a layered live set unfolds in which beats, basslines and words sustain and challenge each other. Niels Broos on keys, Freek Mulder on bass and Aron Smit on drums provide the sonic foundation for Manu’s poetic narrative: theatre and live band as one. After earlier performances at North Sea Jazz, the Nederlands Theater Festival and Boulevard, he now brings the show to our stage for its final season.

‘Word artist Manu delivers a magisterial piece. His poetic words are something we can all use in times of crisis.’ (de Volkskrant)
