About this event
On Sunday 21st June HOLY will be returning to Cu in Dalston for a summer solstice special with South London dub don Sons Of Simeon as our very special guest.
If you've ever been lucky enough to catch one of the Sons Of Simeon sets then you'll understand why we're so excited to get them down to HOLY. Packed with dubplate specials, blazing dub sirens and mic chat chanting down Babylon this is dub futurism done London style.
As always DJ support comes from residents Richard Fearless and Tom Dubwise who will be delivering a 100% vinyl journey into the depths of dub in it's myriad of mutations from 70's roots to contemporary steppers, dub techno, dubstep and beyond.
Lineup
Richard Fearless
Richard Fearless’ DJ sets are marked not by one genre, but a signature sound; a commonality and cohesive narrative that runs throughout multiple styles. A DJ who can drop a deep house set, Jungle, Noize, electro to his legendary 'Fearless in Dub' sets, whatever he's playing he constantly flips it around to his own trippier side of the spectrum. Fearless began as resident DJ at the Job Club in London’s Soho during the 1990s, where he’d play alongside Claude Young, Derrick May, Dave Angel and Andrew Weatherall. After a few years he was picked as a resident for the legendary Heavenly Social with fellow residents, the Chemical Brothers. It was during this time that he started the band, Death in Vegas, a band now firmly planted in the pantheon of heritage British electronic acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, Chris & Cosey, and Nitzer Ebb. Richard currently runs a club at the Pickle Factory in London with Daniel Avery called Goo, which sees the two playing back to back all night, diving deep into the more psychedelic end of the record collections. For the last 4 years on the first Saturday of the month 10- midnight you can catch Richard on the Los Angeles airwaves where he presents his cult radio show, Metal Box on Dublab
Tom Dubwise
As well as a life long vinyl enthusiast Tom also runs the UK based online record shop Dubwise Vinyl, writes about music on a regular basis for Test Pressing and puts mixes together for radio stations including NTS and Rinse. Whilst specialising in dub and reggae Tom also links these genres with other sounds that are inspired and influenced by them such as ambient, post-punk, dub techno and dubstep to provide an uniquely comprehensive view of dub in it's myriad of musical mutations and variations.
