About this event

This summer in the heart of Sheffield’s S2, bringing together DIY musicians, artists, crews and communities from South Yorkshire and beyond.

Built from the ground up with independence at its core, Higher Fields Festival is a not-for-profit, multi-stage outdoor event running from midday until 9pm, followed by an afterparty at Steamworks that will carry on into the night.

First up, we have Gut Level. Emerging from the depths of a railway arch in Sheffield’s underbelly, they’ve risen to become champions of DIY queer club culture across the UK — experts in community-building and creating unforgettable parties. They’re a truly special collective, and we’re proud to call them friends.

Headlining the Gut Level takeover on the Spring Tank Studios stage is Jorg Kuning, one of the most exciting live electronic acts around right now. Known for his singular approach to techno and house, he blends dubby, bleepy, bass-heavy and psychedelic influences into a sound entirely his own. Support comes from local favourites MYNA, Betty and Lick Quid Gold.

Opening the Spring Tank stage is a takeover from Kitchen Radio. A newer addition to Sheffield’s music scene but already an important part of the city’s community radio landscape, Kitchen Radio celebrates the full spectrum of Sheffield’s musical culture and broadcasts it out to an ever-growing network of listeners. Joining them on the lineup are Bonnie and Mae, Dubshack, Robyn Jade and Shananay.

Over the years the name may have changed, but the front door — and the eclectic energy inside — has remained the same. Hatch rose from the ashes of Audacious Artspace and now supports a thriving grassroots creative community, championing diversity and challenging cultural norms across Sheffield’s underground scene.

Teaming up with Delicious Clam, a collective known for celebrating the kings, queens and everyone in between across the city’s creative underground, they’re bringing a theatrical wild-west energy to the festival. Together they present Yo Dynamo, Hekla Fell, Ye Woodbeast, Cattlegrid, R_loomes and Büzz.

Once the sun goes down and the outdoor stages come to a close, the festival continues with the official afterparty inside the warehouse space at The Steamworks, hosted by GROUNDWORK. Shaking Shakespeare’s to its core since the second coming of the bard, Groundwork have spent the last decade laying the foundations for Sheffield’s underground electronic scene, building a loyal following through consistently forward-thinking parties and curation.

Headlining the afterparty is re:ni. Raised on a diet of Rhythm & Sound, Kruder & Dorfmeister and LTJ Bukem, re:ni’s sets connect dubwise techno with the wider lineage of UK dance music. Support comes from local legend Ashley Holmes — artist, DJ and broadcaster, as well as an NTS Radio resident since 2017. His sets blend eclectic influences and experimental sounds drawn from musical traditions and global diasporas from around the world.
