What makes a sound system move us? Why do some spaces feel immersive, powerful and alive, while others don't?

Join Funktion-One founder Tony Andrews, alongside James Hipperson and Mike Igglesden, on Tuesday 9th June for an accessible exploration of sound, audio quality and loudspeaker design.

Whether you are a producer, performer, engineer, DJ, artist or simply passionate about music, this session offers a rare opportunity to learn from some of the leading minds behind the systems that shape club culture around the world.

Designed to demystify an often intimidating area of the music industry and club culture, the discussion will unpack how sound travels, how loudspeakers are designed, and why audio quality fundamentally affects how we experience music, performance and space. No technical background is required.

From the dance floor to the studio, understanding sound can transform how we create, listen and connect.

This event is particularly aimed at FLINTAQ and marginalised artists, emerging producers, creative practitioners and members of the FOLD community, creating an open space for learning, discussion and access to knowledge that is often difficult to encounter outside professional audio circles.

Speakers:

Tony Andrews:

Founder of Funktion-One and one of the most influential loudspeaker designers of the last 50 years. Tony's innovations have shaped generations of sound systems and redefined expectations of audio quality in clubs, festivals and live performance environments worldwide.

James Hipperson

Research & Development Engineer at Funktion-One and PhD researcher in Acoustics at the University of Salford. James specialises in loudspeaker design, acoustic modelling and the science behind how we hear sound.

Mike Igglesden

Technical Design Engineer at Funktion-One, with over a decade of experience designing systems for internationally renowned venues including FOLD, Berghain, Open Ground and K41.

Part of FOLD's inaugural paid studio residency and showcase programme, supported by Arts Council England and delivered in partnership with Saffron Music, Funktion-One and Focusrite.
