Spanners
Spanners in London
SPANNERS, arch 504, Loughborough Junction, SW9 7EXFinal Image hosts a label night at Spanners on the 10th of July with a one-off preview of O Yuki Conjugate's new live set of reworked old material and revisited archival VHS & Super 8 films. This will be OYC's first gig in four years. Before and after the set, the label's very own Laura Not will be DJing.
Their relaxed work attitude, wilful obscurity and general aversion to the music industry has maintained a secrecy around them but reissues have unearthed the hidden beauty of their music. Scene in Mirage (1984), Into Dark Water (1987), Peyote (1990) and Equator (1995) have all found retrospective praise and a new audience. Recent releases have been on World of Echo, Utter and Optimo as well as their own label FINAL IMAGE.
OYC are currently in their fourth incarnation - based around core members Andrew Hulme and Roger Horberry - and are coming out of a recent hibernation to play new shows. Spanners will be their first since the Watching Trees festival in 2022 and will present reinterpretations of older material for the first time.
The performance will also include film work by Hulme, who has simultaneously reinterpreted the band's 80s VHS and super 8 footage. The result will be a mesmerising exploration of the sonic territory OYC have christened “dirty ambient” – multi layered, hyper textural, distinctly gritty and magically unreal.
