About this event

Dancity: density, city, movement. Twenty years of research, experimentation, avant-garde, contemporaneity in dialogue with its roots. The ritual takes place where it all began in 2006: in a city steeped in history where more history has been written, in a magical encounter between tradition and innovation, between melodies of the past and sounds of the future.

DANCITY. IT’S A RITUAL.

Actress

Ange Halliwell

Ange Halliwell began playing the harp at the age of 12. From the lush countryside of southwest France, he composes music that combines hypnotic arpeggios, layered soundscapes, and voices that are sung, spoken, or screamed. His creations are deeply connected to nature, drawing from a wide range of influences: traditional music, lyricism, and horror. In a holistic project, Ange Halliwell crafts a musical and visual universe that is both luminous and melancholic.

Blawan

UK techno producer (Jamie Roberts) known for raw, hardware-driven, and highly distinctive industrial techno.

Colin Benders

As a 17 year old trumpet player Colin Benders already toured Europe, South Africa and Indonesia. At the age of 22 he started Kyteman’s Hiphop Orchestra with which he won various prestigious prizes and awards like the Dutch Pop Prize 2009, an Edison and the Silver Harp. But yet after one year he decided that it was necessary to put an end to this project, despite its enourmous acclamation, in order to explore different musical pathways. With its successor, The Kyteman Orchestra, Benders took a more classical approach with opera singers and a choir which entailed bringing more than 50 people on stage for every concert. Contrasting the meticulous musical organisation of a vast project like that, the next step Benders took with The Kyteman Orchestra was a series of completely improvised concerts : no scores, not a single note, scheme or key was prepared before stepping on stage, except a sort of sign language with which Benders could communicate during the concert with his musicians. And once again after The Jam Sessions Benders decided that it was time to go down a very different path. No more shows with a complete orchestra on stage, but just himself with an orchestra hidden in a couple of boxes filled with (mainly analogue) synthesizer modules. With the setup he built, Benders takes a polyphonic/harmonic approach which is both refreshing and reminiscent of the dawn of the synthesizer era.

Ghost Dubs

GHOST DUBS - "DAMAGED" out now via Pressure Recordings Bandcamp / 2xVinyl / Streaming […] “"If David Lynch had ever been driven to dub, it might well have sounded like this....an early contender for best of the year" – Steve Barker / The Wire Magazine […] “Most of the action is happening on the edge of what the ear can hear […] air-compressing, room-shaking bassline bliss. Your neighbours won’t thank you, but your consciousness will.” – Electronic Sound Mag […] “Damaged is an absolute immersive triumph, a furnace-reduced, machine-tooled groove of hypnotic, ever evolving high-density inner ear-bliss.” – Mojo Mag […] “distills ambient dub into a wispy, wraithlike form. … Where Ghost Dubs stands out is in the intensity of his productions. Lots of people have tried their hand at this tradition, but few have achieved the heaviness, or the strangeness, of Ghost Dubs’ best work." – Pitchfork […] "Damaged is comfortable yet eerie, and it goes back and forth between dream and reality... Listening to the album gives the feeling of a near-death experience." - Yuta Umegaya […] “Record of the Week” - "As you might expect from a record released on The Bug’s Pressure label, this thing is weighty. It’s almost as if it has its own gravitational pull." – The Quietus […] "I have to admit that “Damaged” is something like the essence of Dub embodied. The distillation of 50 years of bass music." – DubBlog.de

Vera Grace

Fueled by passion, Dutch artist Vera Grace is steadily shaping her own space in Amsterdam’s scene. Her sound continues to evolve, blending modular synthesis with hypnotic rhythms and deep mental trips that make you lose sense of time. She approaches DJing as a way to create something new through layering, while her productions focus on warped sound design. Her curiosity about modular synthesis opened a new dimension in her work. She started developing a fully live analog set and has recently begun performing with her modular system, constantly pushing her sound forward. Her most recent EPs, What Was Always There and Funktion Over Form, convey a clear essence in her sound. She moves fluidly between broken rhythms, ambient trips, psychedelic textures, and driving 4/4 tracks, all while staying true to the genre’s roots. After graduating the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, Vera Grace is steadily forging her place in the scene, with performances at clubs like Radion, Grelle Forelle, Elysia, FVTVR, Tresor, and festivals such as Aquasella, Awakenings and DGTL already under her belt.
