Cinéma Sonore

Cinéma Sonore lands at Golden Pudel Club as part of Blurred Edges Festival for a special concert and party featuring two performances - flowing organically from meditative experimentation to dancefloor intensity.

Opening the night, G E K (guitar, FX), Fanis Gioles (objects, FX), and Naama Freedman (voice, synths) perform a live score to the Belgian avant-garde film Histoire de Détective (dir. Charles Dekeukeleire, 1929). Regular fixtures in the Hamburg music scene, the trio reunites following an enchanting Cinéma Sonore event at Malersaal Hamburg, where they performed live to the film classic Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari. With its dadaistic structure and fragmented narrative, Histoire de Détective serves as a moving video art backdrop for an expressionistic and improvised live soundtrack.

Later in the evening, Mule Driver shifts the atmosphere from cinematic abstraction into driving machine energy. Mule Driver (synthesizers, machines, FX) is an Amsterdam-based producer, sound artist, and DJ, founder of Confused Machines label, bass player in the renowned industrial band Mujahideen, and one half of the library music duo Group Modular. Known for his energetic live sets, Mule Driver’s music is a dark tribute to classic analogue machines and acid house aesthetics, wrapped up in a unique live delivery - a performance unlikely to leave any body standing still.

Guiding the night before, after, and in between the performances is Phuong-Dan, founder of dispari, a label and platform for diverse audio releases, performances, and collaborations, as well as a long-time Golden Pudel resident with his monthly Gatto Musculoso evenings. With his hypnotic and unpredictable sets, Phuong-Dan weaves together rhythms, influences, and moods while moving between musical fields with a sort of defiant approach.
